Intro to Memoir/Fiction
Memoir and fiction share the same story elements. Truth or fiction, your story must employ basic narrative technique. In this six-week course, you will learn how to focus your stories and tell them in a compelling way.
This class is for the serious beginner. I will employ both direct instruction, workshopping, and the study of famous short stories for an interactive and enjoyable experience.
Week One: Understanding the Difference between Memoir and Fiction

Week Three: Setting, Description, Theme
Week Four: Dialogue
Week Five: Scene, Summary, Exposition
Week Six: Putting It All Together: The Road to Publishing
This is an intermediate class that will present the basic principles of scene.
It will develop your ability to write strong scenes in any genre.
Session One: Story Structure, Scene vs Narrative Summary
Session Two: Developing Dynamic Scenes
Week Three: Workshop

Character and Setting
This class that will develop your ability to create compelling characters and use setting effectively. It will be a mixture of direct instruction, workshopping and the study of famous short stories for an interactive and enjoyable experience.
Weeks One and Two: Bringing Characters to life
Weeks Three and Four: Setting as the Backbone of Your Story
Week Five: Relationship between Character and Setting
Week Six: Creating Emotion, Conflict and Tension
Exercises in Dialogue
This class will take a close look at techniques for crafting effective dialogue. It will be a mixture of direct instruction, workshop exercises and the study of famous short stories for an interactive and enjoyable experience.
